About Annual Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival The Sun Moon Lake is the largest lake in Taiwan and one of the most beautiful and most famous sites in Asia. Shaped like an irregular rhombus, the eastern part of the Sun Moon Lake is shaped like a round sun while the western part is like a crescent moon. Thus it was named "Sun Moon Lake." The beauty of the Sun Moon Lake is the calm, turquoise water complemented by the majestic mountains that surround the lake. Layers and layers of mountains and countless mountain peaks can be seen as more distant mountains fade into the sky. Like a mystical Chinese painting, the scenery of the Sun Moon Lake is truly breathtaking. The annual Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival is a gathering of grand history and grand scale. Each autumn since 1983, competitive swimmers from Taiwan and overseas fill up the lake, creating a spectacular sight. The cross-lake open swim aims at "making friends and promoting the beauty of Sun Moon Lake by means of the swimming activity," and is recognized as an international sport activity. The event now draws over 20,000 swimming enthusiasts from around the world making it the largest swimming event in Taiwan. The Puli Four Season Swimming Association is proud to be the event organizer for the past 25 years and sincerely welcomes all swimming enthusiasts to join the event.
